GSoC| Week - 1

Introduction and getting familiar with the community.

Updated May - 6, 2020 ·

On May 4th 2020, I finally recieved a mail from GSoC team on 23:17(IST) regarding confirmation, that I am selected as a GSoC student this year under INCF Organisation. I have only applied for the project OpenDevoCell Integration, which is Under a Sub-organisation, OpenWorm. My mentors for this project are Dr. Bradly Alicea and Vinay Varma.
I met various members of the OpenWorm group in my first week. I met another student Mayukh Deb, who is also selected as GSoC student under same sub-org this year.

After result announced?

I started working on my project setup, the very next day of result announcement. I again revisit my proposal and start preparing a robust schedule of how to handle things this year. We all know that this year, we all are facing pandemic, and many exams and other stuff are either postponed or delayed. So, they might clash with the schedule this time. So I have to do plan out all of these things in advance.

We also have a meeting with our mentors, where they walk us through the organisation, what different projects are going on and how can we get more and more involved in these projects and become contributors to it.

They, also let us know about what is going to be the schedule of the GSoC this year. When and how to reach for help if you got stuck somewhere.

They let us know about the best practices in Open Source development projects, importance of documentation etc.

Finally, our group discussed a few research papers and then this meeting concluded.
